Switching to Yahoo! Glenn Caleval

by Glenn Caleval, June 7, 2007

Readers know that recently I had some difficulty with Google. They’ve grown so large, so powerful that they don’t even try to work out any problems partners may have, preferring the easy route of simply dropping the partner. So I had a motive to review everything Google.

This led me to a valuable discovery. Google may be everywhere, but it is not the best search engine. All this time I simply accepted the common-ness of the brand and did all my searching through that ubiquitous search engine. In the process I was missing a lot.

It turns out that Yahoo! Search delivers markedly better results. Yahoo! not only delivers more results it delivers much more relevant results. I was genuinely and dramatically surprised to learn this.

Yahoo! must be having some serious marketing and communications problems because the quality is so obviously superior that only a lack of awareness can explain why it does not enjoy the largest share of searches.

On the left menu of caleval.com I’ve installed a YA -- Yahoo Advanced search. Using it will take you directly to an advanced search page defaulted to 100 results per page and restricts searches to English language sites.

At this time I am not a Yahoo! partner, reseller or advertising publisher, but do not rule out the possibility. I bring you this only because their searches really are better. I have also been thoroughly pleased with the ads that Yahoo! does serve with its search results.

Unlike what I was getting with Google results, the Yahoo! ads are highly connected to the subjects I was interested in. Some of them were so right on that I was able to click through to get exactly what I wanted without any additional searching. I do a fair bit of online shopping so for me this is a real issue.

I encourage you to try it for yourself and make your own decision.
